What is Buttock Contouring and Augmentation?
Buttock contouring is a procedure designed to sculpt, or enhance, the shape of the buttock using liposuction, fat grafting, or placement of implants. Liposuction can be used to sculpt the buttock into an ideal shape. If the buttock size is small, and buttock augmentation is needed, fat grafting can be used to add volume to the buttock. The advantage of fat grafting over other tissue fillers is that the fat belongs to your own body, thus, there is no risk of reaction to a foreign substance. It is not possible to use fat for buttock augmentation in some individuals. In such cases, a solid silicone implant is used for this purpose. A combination of procedures is sometimes needed to get the ideal result.

What does Buttock Contouring and Augmentation accomplish?
Buttock contouring refers to a set of procedures for shaping or augmenting the buttock. With a combination of liposuction and fat grafting, virtually any area of the body can be sculpted into the desired shape. For example, if you want fuller buttocks, fat can be placed in the buttocks to achieve that shape. One of the most common locations for fat grafting has been the buttock. If the buttock size is deficient, fat grafting can offer a more aesthetic shape. In patients who do not possess enough fat for grafting, we have used buttock implants. Implants have the advantage of being very easily placed. However, they do not have the same feel as your own natural tissue. You can ask Dr. Marefat for more details concerning these procedures.

How is Buttock Contouring and Augmentation done?
In buttock contouring, liposuction is done through small puncture holes hidden by the body’s natural folds. The incision itself can be as small as 1/8th of an inch. The area to be suctioned is infiltrated with a solution that contains medicines that reduce bleeding and postoperative pain. The fat is removed from strategic areas of the buttock to bring out the ideal shape, much like a sculptor would remove stone to bring forth the ideal shape hidden within. When fat is being placed in the buttock, we first remove the necessary amount of fat from your body. This is usually removed from the abdomen or thighs. The harvested fat is then processed for injection. With the use of minute incisions, fat is placed in the desired area. The amount of fat injected varies accordingly to the area, and degree, of buttock augmentation desired. With new techniques used in fat grafting, most of the fat survives, producing long-lasting results. Sometimes, however, it may be necessary to reinject an area with more fat. If necessary, this can be done 2-3 months after the first procedure.
